Over the past few years, my travels have taken me to just about every square inch of the state. I have seen well funded programs and I have seen some of the poorest funded programs you can imagine. I think there is room for improvement and I think we can all be a part of it.
Fundraising and Booster Clubs are the key.
Many of the programs across the state have a well organized way of fundraising through booster clubs and other events. The problem is, there are a number of schools who could benefit a great deal with a small amount of funds. I have a few ideas I would like to present on the website today and I would appreciate any feedback you guys may have.
First off, I want to help raise money for some of these programs and deliver to these schools, some equipment that is vital to the recruitment of their kids. Items such as DVD burners and duplicators and in some cases, VCR recorders and VHS tapes. These supplies are key to helping the kids get the exposure they need and the fact is, many of the coaches do not have the funds available or tools available to take full advantage of every opportunity. This website was created as a tool for these coaches and kids and I think we can do better. I am going to experiment with this on a small scale by choosing 5 schools this year. It will be my goal to come up with a list of supplies they need and figure out what price tag comes with it. If the combined costs needed is an average of $400 per school, then this equates to $2000 to cover these five schools. This is our goal and you can help make it happen.
How can you do your part?
A simple $10 contribution can add up. I will match the first $500 once it is raised and at that point we will have our first $1000. We can continue this drive over the next month or so and as the playoff season finishes up, hopefully there will be enough to help out five schools and the supplies will be delivered in time to help with the recruiting process. Also, another idea I have is to make available all of my highlights to individuals who I have completed for the 2007 class. If you would like a copy of your highlights, make a $20 contribution and I will send you a copy.
This is in the beginning phase but I would appreciate some feedback from you guys. I am going to contact some potential schools of need and get an idea of what we will be looking at but I think a great deal can be done if we pull together and make it work. Also, if anyone has any connections where supplies can be purchased at a good price or anything else, please call me or email me.
